Dikler
12.5.07
The river continues to fish very well with fish taking small dries readily. Bigger fish are coming to gold head nymphs fished in the deeper pools. Several have been caught around the pound mark. The heavy rain in recent days may add a little colour, so time your visits carefully.
23.4.07
The Dikler is running clear and a very large number of wild trout are clearly visible throughout the water. I walked the river on Sunday and saw numerous trout around a pound in weight. It would be worth a go perhaps in the evening when there may be a good hatch coming onto the water. The new work that has been carried out is settling very well and clear channels are developing.
Coln
12.5.07
The Coln for some reason is very coloured recently despite the lack of rain over the past few weeks. However, a but of searching will find rising fish, which can be targeted with small dries. many fish have tucked themselves under the bank, so a deeply fished nymph will often pull some of these fish out. At Williamstrip, the fishing is good upstream of the road bridge, but below, the water has been quite shallow and fish difficult to locate
Windrush
12.45.07
Mayfly hatches are building up but fish are not moving to them on the top yet. Sunken nymphs will probably be your best bet at the moment.
27.4.06
I have seen very good hatches of Granham on the water in the early mornings, but unfortunately the hatch seems to be over by mid morning. Fish have been rising freely to these hatches, which is very encouraging. Unfortunately poachers have been seen on the water recently and the sighting of a white transit van seems to have a link. If you see a van of this type acting suspiciously, please note the number and report it to one of the fisheries oifficers. Do not tackle these individuals if they are poaching, but please try to get as much information as possible. If you have a mobile phone, it may be possible to call the police or even take a photograph... but please be careful.. these people are pretty dangerous if confronted.
18.5.05
Fish rising to mayfly at Widford, Asthall and Stanton Harcourt. Some nice wild fish coming out among the stockies.
Leach
19.4.06
The work carried out by the work parties this winter seem to have proved worth while. Several fish seem to have settled in the new cleared sections and hopefully they will move into the deeper water created by the groynes below the ford. I am aware of at least 2 visits which have produced fish, including a wild fish of about 1 lb.
Cornbury Park (it is important that all members complete the new returns sheet in the black box in the car park). Please remember that you are expected to take your first fish so that we are in a position to rotate the stock in the lake. This new rule was introduced this year and is in the handbook.
12.5.07
The first lake is fishing very well. Trout are taking dries when rising fish are covered. The Mayfly is in good numbers and fish are becoming more confident about taking them off the top. Fish are also being caught on Mayfly nymphs further out. Several very good fish have been taken recently including some good Browns. The third lake is also fishing well, but the water is still quite coloured due to the recent alfgal bloom caused by the warm sunny weather. Hopefully this will clear now that we have some cooler cloudier weather!
23.4.07
All Cornbury Lakes have fished well with over 250 fish caught so far between 80 anglers.Unfortunately the water has become coloured in recent days due probably to this rather unusual spell of warm weather. It is not unusual to have a 'spring' algal bloom which causes this problem, but it should become clear again over the next week or so. There are fish showing, but hopefully they will start taking natural off the top as soon as the hatches start to arrive. Most fish are being caught on nymphs.
27.4.06
Cornbury had 420 fish caught in the first three weeks of the season. Many anglers were seen at the water and reported catching fish on small PTN, Dawl bachs etc. There has not been any real fly hatches yet,but as the weather improves and gets warmer, the flie life should improve.
19.4.06
Cornbury got off to a cracking start, with many members making use of the lakes in the first weeks. Many fish have been caught, with a lot of well mended over wintered fish seen. Superior has fished very well along the left bank mid way up with nymphs. The fish in Wilderness have been concentrating around the deeper damn end and have been attracted to flies with a bit of brightness in them, such as holographic tinsel etc. Stud lake has been fishing well close to the trees on the right bank. At the time of writing, there has not been a lot of insect life, however, this should change when the weather warms up a little and is less windy.
18.8.05
Few anglers have visitied Cornbury in recent weeks. However, fish are being caught on sunken Daddy longlegs, small buzzer imitations and Dawl Bachs. With the change in weather fishing should start to improve after a sluggish few weeks.
8/6/05
The lakes have quietened down now that the mayfly is almost over. Fish are still moving but harder to catch. Try small dry flies of nymphs such as damsels . The water is very clear and fish are qite easy to spot.
3.6.05
The lakes have continued to fish very well over the past two weeks. There have been intermittent hatches of Mayfly, but fish are rising freely and are moving along the margins in good numbers. Several large fish have been taken including many fish around 5lb from Stud and Fish Ponds as well as a 8-9lb brown trout from Fish Ponds on a Gray Wolf! Mayfly patterns have been the main fly taking fish.
18.5.05
Cornbury has a lot of free rising fish at the moment and many fish are being caught on all three trout lakes. Fish are being taken on Gray Wolf and Mayfly immitations as well as black Klinkenhammers
12.5.05
Cornbury continues to fish well on all lakes as the fish have spread out since stocking in April. In recent weeks fish have moved onto small buzzers with many fish been caught on the Dawl Bach. One member caught a magnificent 6lb brownie from Stud lake which was duly returned. Many fish have been caught on the left bank above the dam on the top lake in the shallows and around the deep channel opposite the boat house foundations!
18.4.05
As of the 18th April Cornbury Park has had over 90 rod visits to the four Lakes. Most anglers catching between 1-3 trout between 1-3 lbs. Two fish of about 5lbs were taken out of the bottom and third lakes and were in excellent condition. Fish have generally been taken on Gold head hares ear nymphs, green nymphs and buzzers. Fish are being taken off the jetty mid way up the lake and under the trees at the top end. Several small jack pike have also been caught and anglers are asked if they could remove them to the second lake if possible when caught. The third lake is fishing well off the dam wall and in the deeper water about half way up. The Top lake has been fishing very well off the dam wall where a large number of fish seem to have congregated. All lakes were stocked again last week with fish from our clubs stock pond.
